In 1996 Tupac Shakur, one of the most talented artists of his time,
was murdered by an unknown gunman. Fred L. Johnson and Tayannah Lee
McQuillar examine the theories surrounding his death and the story
of Tupac's lost legacy in this definitive biography.
For millions, Shakur gave voice to their stories, but there was
also another side to him, revealed as his life spun out of control,
as the whispered warnings from friends went unheeded and the
denunciations of critics grew louder. Disturbingly, he sang and
wrote about his impending death. When it came, it brought the music
industry to its knees and ended an era when American rappers were
leaders in using their art to speak the truth to corporate,
government, and judicial power.

U2's success and significance are due, in large part, to finding
inventive, creative solutions for overcoming obstacles and moving
past conventional boundaries. As it has embraced change and
transformation over and over again, its fans and critics have come
to value and expect this element of U2. These new essays from the
disciplines of organizational communication, music theory, literary
studies, religion, and cultural studies offer perspectives on
several ways U2's dynamic of change has been a constant theme
throughout its career. The eight essays here come from the U2
Conference 2013, which explores the music, work, and influence of
U2, furthering the scholarship on U2.

In an article published in Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Defense
Robert Gates reflects on "whether formations and units organized,
trained, and equipped to destroy enemies can be adapted well enough
and fast enough to dissuade or co-opt them-or, more significantly,
to build the capacity of local security forces to do the dissuading
and destroying." This question is central to the on-going debate
over whether the Army has the proper structure and training to
perform full spectrum operations. This monograph reports that 3-2
Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) effectively operated as a "full
spectrum" force during Operation ARROWHEAD RIPPER in the city of
Baqubah, Iraq, from June to September 2007. The Brigade Commander
organized the SBCT to conduct simultaneous kinetic and nonkinetic
operations, task-organizing his brigade to leverage the Iraqi
military, local leaders, and Iraqi systems already in place to
accomplish his mission of defeating al-Qaeda and stabilizing the
city of Baqubah. Ultimately, adaptive leadership, at every level,
enabled 3-2 SBCT to operate in a full spectrum campaign.
